My adventure in reading this novel Pereira Declares can be summed up by the word enjoyable. We acknowledge and remind and warn you that they may, in fact, be entirely unrepresentative of the actual reviews by any other measure.

Pereira is finally seen as a good, even noble, person whose own sense of decency is able to overcome his hitherto willful blindness to the nature of the political situation around him in Portugal. His visit to a clinic to help his ailing heart puts him in contact with a doctor, with whom he mainrains close friends and discusses the doubts he is beginning to have about his isolated and apolitical life.
